wtf picture 300x225 Shocked and Awed

As many people who know me can attest to, I’m a bit of a news junkie.  So I am one of those types that watches all news, all day, read all the news blogs (liberal and conservative), and will not take any calls or visitors during the hours of 9a-1p because the Sunday news shows are on.

HOWEVER, as I watch this election progress into a sea of lies, deception, smear tactics, diversions and pandering, I am truly afraid.  Will the Republican Rovian machine do it again?  I think to myself, come on America, you MUST be smarter than this.  However, looking at the polls, I’m not so sure.

The Republican party’s popularity is growing among the folks that are consistently hurt the most by their policies.  Yet, working class white men and women just can’t resist the Republican brand.  Maybe it makes them feel rich? Maybe they care more about preventing gay people from getting married or what I do with my utereus, than their own economic and global survival?  Maybe the Democratic party is too closely associated with Black people?  Its the only way I can explain a block of people consistently voting against their economic interests.  Yay!  I know our lives are terrible, Im suffering, my son is at war, i’ve been laid off and have no health insurance and the world is generally worse off after 8 years of Republican rule– BUT I think I’ll have a little more please?  There is a cognitive dissonance to what is unfolding in this election right now, and I am literally stunned.  McCain being a war hero is not gonna feed your kids.

As I watch these rallies and polls, I’m just speechless.  I’m just sitting here, mouth agape, that half this country would like to elect McCain/Palin.  Not that I dont respect opinions that differ from mine, but when those differing opinions are based on nothing anyone can seem to articulate, the opinion becomes suspect.  And Im not some raving partisan.  I’ve agreed with republicans in the past (though never George W.) and dems in the past.  I base my decision on what POLICIES will benefit me and my community.  I don’t care who you vote for, its your decision.  But at least make a decision based on some common fucking sense.  The fact that folks have newly signed onto the McCain campaign because of a woman they know NOTHING about and whom they have never heard speak without a script? RUFKM???  McCain, who tried to convince us the world was too dangerous a place to be left in the hands of the risky, young Obama–picks this broad as #2?  That’s his idea of Country First?  Politics over competence?  Thats how highly he values the American People?   What kind of game is this?

A part of me thinks McCain is somewhere thinking ( as he’s being manipulated by the Republican Coven), this isnt me.  A once honorable man, has now reduced himself to smears and lies and tactics, and there’s no turning back now.  Even if someone was genuinely interested in Mccain,  you still would have no idea of what he plans to do with the country because he never talks about it.  No issues, no policies, no nothing.  Change my ass.  He just shamelessly feeds us BS day after day.  Now Obama is sexist?  This from a man who allowed a Republican questioner to ask him “how are we gonna beat the bitch” at a town hall meeting without any protestation whatsoever ?  Anything to divert from issues and policy.  Its almost sad.  And what’s scary is that people are actually buying it.

So perhaps the debates will change the game.  Lets see what happens when McCain and Palin actually have to debate on the issues.  When Palin finally hits Meet the Press and sits down with some journalists who arent afraid of her.   When McCain begins to do press conferences again.  When Palin isnt saying the same 10 lines over and over again.  When we can finally see the two candidates side-by-side away from handlers.  When McCain and Obama finally go head-to-head on the issues, lets hope the decision will be clear.

OK, I just had to get that off my chest.  With that being said, every once in a while I find a post where I must admit, I couldnt have said it better myself.  Here is a posting by Bob Cesco about the state of the presidential election as of today Sept. 10 2008.  Enjoy and discuss.

Fooled Again

by Bob Cesca

It’s happening again. Regardless of the outcome of this thing, it’s clear that half of America is falling for the same superficial trickery that gave us eight years of George W. Bush. You know the routine. Who do you want to have a beer with? Who is more plainspoken? Who would you like to drive your kids to hockey?

Only this time around, America is exponentially worse off than it was in 2000 or 2004, which only makes the degree to which certain voters are being tricked all the more infuriating and incomprehensible. Show of hands: have you gone all Howard Beale yet this week?

I’d do the list of Republican Epic Fail, but it’s too exhaustively long to enumerate here. So here’s a thumbnail. The day after Sarah Palin’s historically overrated Edie McClurg With Lying performance at the Republican convention, the Dow tanked 344 points. The day after that, the Republicans got their bounce — an unemployment rate bounce to 6.1 percent — the highest level in five years. Two days after that, Secretary Paulson announced the government’s “deprivatization” of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. And yesterday, the Dow dropped another 280 points. All of this within the last seven days.

So what are the Republicans and the barbecue media talking about today? A pig metaphor that’s older than John McCain. John McCain! A cynical, sell-out politician who chose for his running mate someone who probably thinks Fannie Mae is this and Freddie Mac is this.

It’s no wonder why Americans are ignoring issues that are literally right in front of their faces.

Today on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, we overheard some accidental truth-telling as to why this is happening. Chris Matthews was on with Scarborough and Andrea Mitchell (sitting in for Mika who, I think, was off updating her Sarah Palin Fansite & Web Shrine) and Matthews was poking Scarborough and Buchanan about their wall-to-wall pig remark coverage.

MATTHEWS: Two days from now — I want to ask you, what will we talk about two days from now?

SCARBOROUGH: Whatever the McCain campaign wants us to talk about, because the McCain campaign is assertive.

Shockingly honest. To be fair, however, the complicity of far-right talk radio — all 1,000 radio stations nationwide — makes Scarborough and Buchanan look like Bernie Sanders and Mike Malloy. Naturally, today, we’ll hear righteous indignation all over AM radio — Rush Limbaugh, who loves his novelty Hillary Clinton nutcracker almost as much as his “feminazi” jokes, drooling on his phallic cigars while decrying Senator Obama’s so-called sexist remark.

We all know why this is happening. Senator Obama said it during his convention acceptance speech in Denver:

Because if you don’t have any fresh ideas, then you use stale tactics to scare the voters. If you don’t have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from.
You make a big election about small things.

Small things. Like lipstick. And the Republicans get away with it because everyone with barbecue sauce stains on their mouths will, as Scarborough inadvertently admitted, talk about it.

What else gets short-changed in lieu of the small things? Adequate debunking of the most disgusting Republican attack ad since Lee Atwater’s Willie Horton ad or Alex Castellanos’ White Hands ad. Instead, the new McCain ad depicting Senator Obama as a creepy perv who wants to tell your kids about their down-there places is aired over and over and over on cable. And the very serious discussion swirling around this ad? How will Obama respond to this? Will this damage Obama? When do we get to show the ad again?

You wouldn’t know it while watching Morning Joe, but the truth is that the legislation in question had to do with age-appropriate education that would help to protect children from sexual predators. I repeat: to protect children from sexual predators.

Our collective question for Senator McCain has to be: Why are you against that, Senator? Why don’t you want to protect our children from perverts, pedophiles and predators? Between that and your vote against SCHIP, it’s clear that you aren’t interested in keeping America’s children safe. Obviously, you’d rather win an election.

It’s no wonder why a baffling number of Americans are refusing to vote based on the issues happening literally in their own back yards. And so we have a Republican ticket — a ticket that exactly matches in every way the Bush-Cheney administration — enjoying an incongruously high level of polling support, despite the situation on the ground in almost every American town and suburb.

Given their record of success in years past, it’s no wonder why the Republicans do what they do. But this goes beyond cause and effect. It’s their nature. They’re simply unable to govern, so all they have left are their basest, most cynical and depraved instincts. Their presidential ticket is composed of two incompetent, corrupt liars who want to continue the Bush legacy (while also lying about their “change” message). But they’re good at whining; they’re good at smearing; and they excel at fear-mongering. John McCain has fully embraced Karl Rove’s brand of insect politics.

With a complicit barbecue media at their disposal — a team of fainting goats on cable news and AM radio — their screaming and stomping gets plenty of airplay. But worse than that, it gets an obscene amount of undue validation. Because when it doesn’t, the Republicans crap their cages until the goats faint again. Consequently, casual viewers who aren’t as knee-deep in this stuff get the wrong impression as to what’s truly important. Or they become so flummoxed by the noise that they throw their hands in the air and, with an exhausted yalp, declare both candidates equally as awful. George W. Bush “won” in 2000 due to that exact phenomenon.

And I remain very confident that Senator Obama is going to win this time. My mantra: the Obama team defeated the most powerful and popular Democratic brand in America. His campaign is the most disciplined we’ve seen in decades. His financial resources are record-breaking. Yet, if McCain ends up winning this thing, we can only conclude that it’s because he so fully embraced a form of Rove Republican politics — tactics so unprecedented in their deceitfulness and snark that they will have successfully obscured a full decade of undisputed failure, not to mention what Mort Zuckerman called this week “the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.”

In the face of all of this, can anyone seriously deny that John McCain and the Bush Republicans are successfully fooling Americans — again?

I actually thought that white women would be insulted that McCain just picked any ol woman to get them on his side. But this ish is working. I really can’t believe it.

Its like, if McCain had picked Kwame Kilpatrick and spun all of the former mayor’s indescretions to show that people are human and make mistakes. And then Black people saying, “yes you’re right” and leaving Obama behind to support McCain. It’s ridiculous.

It’s crazy how Palin’s home life shouldn’t be criticized, but Obama’s pastor can be? It’s crazy that Republican’s have never been one to not give teenaged mothers the side eye, but suddenly, its ok if the grandmother’s name is Palin?

This is seriously frustrating, especially when I think about how Obama has to be perfect, has to fit into this little bitty box, but these other candidates can do unspeakable things, and all it does is showcase their humanity. Give me a break. If Malia was preggers, what would the nation say about that?

I agree that the debates will show who the right candidate is, but the sad thing about that is will it matter to the aforementioned McCain supporters who have already made up their minds? Probably not, but I hope I am wrong, lawd knows I do.

  3. JenNo Gravatar on 11 Sep 2008 at 7:13 am #

That is well said. I for one don’t think there are that many “undecided voters”. They have made up their minds, but are waiting for somebody to give them a talking point they like, a reason to say, this is why I am voting the way I am, rather that the not-so PC reason they are afraid to speak. Please God all the youg voters and the newly registered vorets come out and make their voices heard for Senator Obama. We can’t have 4 more years of this mess!

I just got off the phone with my local registrar’s office to make sure I can go vote (recently moved and changed address). This shit is rediculous! It is extremely frusterating that everyone jumps on board for a female VP who will more than likely become Pres…WTF is it that she is on board for besides right to own guns, pro-life, and against teaching our young adults how to protect themselves when they go out and have sex anyway no matter how many ways and demonstations that we put in front of them to tell them to wait.

Senator Obama doesn’t need to convince us he is good. I just wish he would stop running against Gov. Palin and go back to running against Sen. McCain.

The fact of the matter is that the Vice President is irrelevant, who the VP is is irrelevant, and what the VP believes or says is irrelevant until the minute the President dies or is incapacitated.

Sen. McCain is running for President and Sen. McCain is who the focus needs to be shifted to. Sen. Obama needs to be assertive in saying that it is the person on the TOP of the ticket who counts and that person is selling his soul to get elected and if he does that he will sell his soul to the special interests and anyone else who makes him feel special.

I think we are all in disbelief at how close this race has really become. America is at a crossroads and if they choose McSame we are doomed.

I’m praying that voters without landlines will come out on Nov 5. So I wouldn’t count us out yet. Besides if Obama’s focus worried about “the others” he would have never made it this far.

The debates should really put this uneasiness to rest. McSame and Palin stand on nothing but wobbly legs and have nothing for “The IrishMan” Biden and Obama when it comes to the issues. I’ve seen Biden and I like the fact that he has a tad of crazy to balance Obama’s even tempered-ness. I’m hoping Biden can pounce on the little delicate hypocritical white princess and send her back to Alaska moose hunting.

She’s got to nerve to be pro-life but not when its on four legs. Where’s PETA Now?

What hurts the most is that White folks can get a free pass on being down and dirty and yet catch high-grade amnesia when it comes to how mean and spiritually debased they can be.

It really frightens me who we are dealing with because no one knows the inner workings of what really goes down to make things happen. Call it what you want, *cough*conspiracy theory *cough* or ancestral memory…I suppose it’s why so many of us are on edge. We know the pain of how low these can be and even worse there’s no low to what the culture of power will pull out of their asses. Remember those votes swimming in the Florida waters?

I pray hard. Every day. For Obama, his family and our country.

Tracye, thats my point. If you are such a supporter, i would LOVE to hear your thoughts on why you think the McCain Palin team would make a better President and VP? I find an alarming number of McCain supporters cannot articulate 3 specific reasons why they support him. They start with his war hero/tough on national security issue and then…stuttering and silence.

on what policies does he disagree with bush?

Its funny, one MCCain’s biggest “maverick” moments was his position in Immigration. you NEVER hear him discuss this even when he is running on being a maverick. Why? Because its an unpopular position with the majority of the republican party. WTF kind of maverick is that? Oh, you can only be a maverick in a non-election year?

Im nothing if not open minded– i SINCERELY want to hear a supporter explain this. Id be happy to listen. Send me an email if you like.

I am really starting to wonder about this country and the people who live amongst us. I have said this before, and I’ll say it again….If the American people were dumb and idiotic enough to re-elect Bush in 2004, they are most certainly stupid enough to elect McCain this year. It’s sad and incredibly senseless that nearly HALF the country would like to have four more years of this hellish republican rule. All I have to say is, whoever votes for McCain this year better not have SHIT to say about the deteriorating economy, their own personal and imminent financial ruin, a miserable, detestable war with no end in sight, etc….I have zero sympathy for Bush OR McCain supporters. If Americans want “change,” they need to make the appropriate decisions that will facilitate this change. I’m starting to understand why most Americans do not have a college degree.

I still believe that Barack will win.

The environment that exists today with the combination of inflation, high gas prices, record unemployment and job losses have created a perfect storm for an Obama victory.

As much as White skinned privilege is a reality, the economic conditions that presently exists don’t allow that fact to overcome self-interest. Pain makes one’s focus more acute and all the lies and spin of Rove and McCain can’t diminish it.

A point of critical mass has been reached in this country and it will be enough to put Obama over the top.

It again shows that the sheep will follow ANY shepherd. Interesting enough, when you examine it in that context, there are things to note:

    1) The shepherd is usually leading the sheep to get fleeced (lose all they have) or to slaughter (ie: the “whatever the GOP will call it now war” – - War Against Terror, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Make Sure Bush get oil money and Cheney’s Boys get non-bid contracts, etc)

    2) The view of all sheep, except those the front sheep is the same – - White @ss$s

    3) The shepherd is the only one that should know where to take the flock – - and could you honestly believe that McCrook could lead anyone anywhere (he, admittedly, still does not know how to use a computer or anything about that “internet thing” – - wow, he is REALLY the one I feel confident to control our economic future that is all done by computer now!) Maybe we could ask his VP choice to lead… OOPs, I forgot that she supported the “Bridge To Nowhere!”

Well, this is where I step off my soap-box and make sure that I am first in line at my polling place to vote RIGHT (based upon issues and quality of candidate, regardless of color), not vote WHITE (out of fear that anyone that is not White is incapable of the job)…

    Pure, unadulterated ignorance…

    To Tracye:
I am outraged by your racism, and as a white woman I disavow any connection to you.

This election is about getting this country out of the quagmire it has fallen into at the hands of the Republicans. McSame is operating on Rove-like, self-serving policies. Only Obama has demonstrated the integrity, insight, and foresight to move this country forward and rescue it from the wealthy hawks whose only goal is the accumulation of wealth and power for themselves. In the 21st century of globalization, we desparately need someone who recognizes that you can’t be a one-note politician concerned only with terrorism, stomping around the world bludgeoning other countries. It will take someone like Obama to get other nations on board with eradicating these nomadic, terrorist thugs wherever they light. Indeed, the terrorists will have won when this country is brought down by economic failure in supporting a Republican backed war. (Just who is dying fighting this war? For God’s sake, McCain wouldn’t even support a bill to provide education dollars for veterans. Why not? Because he’s afraid if educated these poor and disenfranchised young people will be a force to be reckoned with, or leave his war machine.)

Obama has it right, we need to set our priorities straight. End our oil dependence, keep lines of communication open even with those we have differences with, take care of our young and old, educate our citizens. An educated population cannot be lied to and forced into servitude. Look around the world, educated and informed people become free people, with the reverse also being true.

Educate yourself Tracye. It is a tragedy that people like you perpetuate hate in your ignorance.

Am I naive to believe that it is possible to overcome gender and race to vote for excellence, integrity, and honor?

I am going to be a bit racist and say that one of the reasons I’m voting for Obama is because he’s black. But that’s not the entire story. Obama is a very wholesome character, scrutinized in any which way possible, and there’s no way he can pass muster and be average with some personal problems to have gotten so far, he has to be 10 times better than other non-minority candidates because he has to “prove himself”. He is also very smart, well spoken and can rouse a crowd.

On NPR yesterday, they interviewed a panel of voters of mixed races in Pennsylvania. They said all the non-white panelists endorsed Obama, while the majority of white panelists endorsed McCain.

IMO, indecisiveness in some voters is race driven. Perhaps on a subconscious level. Obviously, when I see Obama, I see a black person, but I also see the whole person. I am in awe that a minority can accomplish so much, having come from relatively little. And when people say “if he weren’t black, he wouldn’t be this far” it kinda boils my blood. Years after (albeit few) black nominees being considered as candidates and none passing muster, I am being sold the notion that Obama is a affirmative-action candidate? On the other hand, can you really take the color off this man, living in the society we do today. It’s what has made him who he is.

Sorry. These are things off my chest.

I LIKE Obama. He can lead this country in a new direction. Nothing’s perfect. On conservative issues: I want a strong economy, few taxes, few but strong, relevant and efficient federal programs, and a smaller government. But the Republicans are offering none of that. My taxes would probably stay the same under republicans, they want more debt to continue more war, and there are no qualms about instigating or insinuating wars (ummm…anyone else dismayed over Palin’s remarks about war with Russia?).

Lol. I have more to rant about, but I shouldn’t make this longer. Love this blog. First time posting a comment (I think).

The reason George W was reelected and McCain might win is that the Democratic party is married to the gay agenda, the pro-abortionists and big government and those are three things that middle America does not care for.
The majority of people in this country want family values respected and they want a strong America we can be proud of.
Even the war in Iraq was not enough to make us forget the rest.
I don’t vote here because I’m Canadian but my husband will vote for McCain and I am all for it.
We are not crazy aobut McCain but a lot of us see him as the least of two evils.
Senator Obama is exciting but I honestly don’t think he has a chance.
I’ve been wrong a time or two though so we’ll see.

First off, Jam, keep doin’ your thing. I’ve been checking out CINAW for about six or seven months, and I always find something truly entertaining and educational on here. I also dig the fact that folks ACTUALLY take the time to be (most times) common sensed and open minded in their responses. I applaud you for being able to connect to the public in that way.
Secondly, the McCain/Palin ticket is a joke that no one realizes is funny… yet. The sad truth is that what McCain and his handlers attempted, is working like a charm… for the moment. “Let’s get a dame (yes, he’s old enough to use the word DAME) that nobody knows to get the rest of these broads to get in line with US!” I mean, they were better off trying to get Hillary on ticket as opposed to putting this Alaskan “hockey mom” on. Let’s see: She’s pro guns, con abortion (so am I [personally], but I believe in women’s choice), has a child with Down Syndrome (I thought you only got that from “in-breeding”), yet supported the cutting of Special Education funds in schools, she is all for cutting budgets, yet wanted to spend over 700 million to build a bridge to a nearly unpopulated town (80 people should be able to sled to the next closest town/village)… The lady is a walking contradiction, which isn’t bad. Her flaws lie in the extremes of her contradictions. We don’t even need to get into her inexperience, because it’s fruitless to do so. I agree with everyone else on here, though… I’m supporting Obama, and also, here in Indiana, we have a huge influx of “Obamacans” (republicans voting democrat this year), due to McCain and Palin NOT talking about issues, and Obama speaking facts.

Also, I don’t want free healthcare. Good for me, bad for the country…bad for me.
Although, don’t get me wrong, I think McCain sucks and Palin is a liar…I would rather vote for a squirrel or raccoon…but whoever won’t instantly pull out of Iraq/give free healthcare gets my vote.
Oh and BTW, Obama is a liar too. He claims to have voted in Senate against the Iraq war, but wasn’t in Senate then. They’re both scum.

    Joanne and Laura-
How about you two going over to Iraq? I hear they take contractors as you’re probably substandard for the real military.

Obama has said that he will pull troops out, but not overnight as you seem to think. For God’s, the Iraqis want us out, why should we stay? Anyhow, we’re going to need our troops for Palin’s war with Russia.

And if you don’t like same-sex marriage, don’t marry another woman. Likewise, if you don’t support abortion, don’t have one. (Either of you a foster parent or have adopted children?)

Get educated and stop relying on the tabloids for your information.

I know I’m late to comment, but I’ve been soooo busy with the bull that the rubs call candidates and campaign ads. I think it’s unconsionable that McCain would equate Obama’s sex ed platform so that young children would know the difference between good and bad touches is absofreakinlutely ridiculous!

His choice, choice being the operative word which we will NO LONGER have if he’s elected, for Palin~gave his flatlining campaign a shock which jolted his numbers, prayerfully temporarily. As for Palin herself, I find it peculiar that she could call herself a pitbull, but me and anyone else that call her dog, female that is, would be labeled sexist or our comment viewed as demeaning. I don’t get it. Who cares that she kills moose and caribou??? I’d be concerned id she’s given the codes to ANYTHING in the whitehouse let alone possibly be the one to answer that 3am call~then again, she’d be up nursing her 4 month old, she may as well asnwer the phone!!!

See how scary the thought is? For one, I don’t believe that Trig is her son. How many unwed teens have you known to be sent to live with great Aunt so and so only to return a few months later and have a new baby brother/sister? Bristol sat out of school for 5 months, right before Trig was born, due to a severe case of Mono, but that’s a conversation for another time.

I don’t doubt that Palin is a swell person and all, but Clinton and her gaggle of diehard supporters are NOT going to let this hockeymom become the 1st woman president.

    to (white) Cathee,

Amen, Amen and Amen; welcome to the fold!

With all that’s happen with Hurricane Ike, Fannie / Freddie, Lehman, Merrill and the spike in gas prices just in time for the cold weather to set in; I pray this will push Sen. Obama over the top with voters. Surely Sen. McCain saying, just this morning, that our economy is stable will. I swear I felt like the picture of the guy at the top of this post… what the ?!

  28. jam donaldson on 15 Sep 2008 at 7:00 pm #

i believe his exact words were the “fundamentals of the economy are strong.” RUFKM???? Really McCain? Really? and the race is tied? Jesus take the wheel.

I don’t know if I can go with you on this one, and I find myself agreeing with you most of the time. My problem is that Obama has not really done anything except run. I have seen him sponsor legislation, but never really drive it through the Senate. Plus, most of the people who support him cannot say anything other than he inspires hope and will bring change.

If McCain picked her because she is a woman, so what. How many times has the democratic party been guilty of pandering? It’s one of the main reasons I jumped to the Republican side, particularly in Maryland because the democrats expect me to vote for them because of my skin color.

Let me ask this just for giggles. Is President Bush really that bad? Honestly? I do think we have been in Iraq for too long. Outside of that, people are acting like everything is Bush’s fault. Bush cannot help it the other people lied and that companies got greedy.

I say with much love and all due respect to you, because you make many good points on a regular, I cannot support Barack Obama as president.

  30. MarieNo Gravatar on 17 Sep 2008 at 1:47 am #

See? America really IS that dumb. Case in point illustrated perfectly with P. Kenneth Burns’ comment. I rest my case.

  31. CatheeNo Gravatar on 17 Sep 2008 at 7:42 am #

    P. Kenneth Burns: Hmmm, let me see, Bush isn’t that bad, let’s consider that. Been in Iraq TOO LONG?! America should NEVER HAVE GONE into Iraq to begin with, much less it being too long. Following 9/11, the majority of nations aligned with us and Bush has managed to squander most alliances and decimated our respect on the world stage. Yes, Ken, that matters with globalization, we are all dependent upon one another. He claimed “mission accomplished years ago, yet we’re still in Iraq. What exactly was accomplished again, P.Ken? Bush has utilized the signing statement rather than veto bills, more than any other president in history, to blatantly disregard laws put into place by our law-making body, the legislature. But one example is torturing prisoners; our legislature passed a law making it illegal to torture prisoners, Bush signs it and adds a signing statement saying he can disregard this law whenever he sees fit. Despite congress saying that civil rights must be respected, Bush disregards them with abandon. Whenever he wants something he claims it is in the name of terrorism and plunders forward. Bush came up with, and blazenly pushed through, tax breaks for the rich based on the trickle down theory; I don’t know about you, but what has been trickling down on most of us is the crap. It certainly didn’t increase business investments here in America, as you watch jobs flying out of the country. For God’s sake, the man can barely string together a coherent sentence! And yes, Bush as president is the LEADER and enforcer of laws, (oops, I forgot, he only upholds those that suit him…signing statements), should have held corporate raiders and the greedy responsible for decimating our economy. Why not propose some regulation, eh? While I’m not for a big-brother government, let’s face it, we need some regulation on these companies and corporations. No P. Ken, Bush IS all that bad, and while I’m not 100% in agreement with Senator Obama, he will move this country forward, not backward like the reactionary team of McSame and Barbie. With all due respect.

  32. CatheeNo Gravatar on 17 Sep 2008 at 8:17 am #

I overlooked mentioning to you, Mr. Burns, that Obama has proposed specific plans and policies during this campaign. (Can’t say that for McSame, who basically flaunts his war record.)

For one, Obama supports negotiations with other nations, even rogue nations. Lines of communication must be kept open, even if for nothing more than to keep your opponents in your sights. Obama has the intelligence and insight to see when a game is being run on him, which also gives one the upper hand. This is far better than closing the door, and guessing at what is going on behind it.

Obama has a plan for improving public education, for everyone, not just the elite few who can afford to drive their babies to a select school. His plan also calls for a $4000 annual subsidy for college students.

Obama supports developing wind, solar, and thermal energies. (A policy that McSame has just come on board with.) Obama has done so since 2004 with his speech at the DNC, words of which were taken by McSame for one of his political ads. I cannot respect a constituency that chants “drill baby, drill” as if this were some highschool athletic event.

Obama has not supported the war in Iraq from the beginning. He did support a bill to provide education dollars for our veterans. (McSame voted against this.) I am suspicious of McSame’s cavalier attitude as he jokes about war with “bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.” War is no joke; ask those that have buried their children as a result of this illegal war.

Obama has proposed that illegal aliens be fined, required to go through proper channels for entry into this country following those already in process, and require them to learn English. (I am particularly on board with the English requirement, as it is language that binds citizens of a nation together.)

Some would lead with fear and threats, some would lead with dignity and respect. Personally, I’ll make my choice based on the latter. Keep in mind, that the fear-based leader always has to watch their back.

If you would like to learn more about either candidate, Mr. Burns, may I suggest you log on to their resepective websites?

  33. P. Kenneth BurnsNo Gravatar on 17 Sep 2008 at 4:37 pm #

Cathee, why the hostilities? First and foremost, saying the P is not necessary. I’m not that anal about it. I just simply said I disagreed. I guess I have to address this in reverse order.

McCain was also for the same illegal immigration reform, only he led the charge for the Republicans. The war was not illegal, Congress authorized it and now the democrats are trying to re-write history. The difference is Obama can legitimately say that he was against the war. McCain just came on board about drilling, he was for the other stuff.

I agree diplomacy should be the first step, that’s a given. However, why should we talk to nations who do not really want to have amiddle ground. Should I remind you about the few groups (including countries) hell bent on wanting to destroy Israel, just because? If someone comes and slaps you, you don’t want to negotiate, you want to beat the crap out of them. You don’t talk to an un-repentant enemy, you smack them back until they are truly sorry.

I’m glad you do not agree 100% with Obama, but you should really consider history as well as what they say now. Also, someone flipping positions is not that bad…it’s when they flip-flop is when you should worry.

Oh and that $4000 subsidy for college students. That’s all well and good, but don’t think rich people will end up paying for it.

  34. Obama StanNo Gravatar on 17 Sep 2008 at 11:29 pm #

Sometimes. Just sometimes. I get to thinking that there are plants running around on liberal blogs trying to lambast our opinions. They want to destroy our hope with their insidious accusations of who they think Obama really is.

It’s not that we should have a problem with differing viewpoints; but we really should ignore the blatantly ignorant motherfuckers that come on this site (and others) that really have unfounded reasons as to why they WON’T vote for Obama.

Obama supporters. Let’s focus and work our damdest to spread the word of Obama’s message. There’s strength in numbers. Fuck the naysayers, closet racists, and self-hating negroes who probably don’t give two flying f*cks about the advancement of colored people or America.

  35. CatheeNo Gravatar on 18 Sep 2008 at 12:25 am #

Thanks Obama Stan. Guess I was wasting energy on one undeserving. Call me an ever hopeful optimist. (Was I that scathing? Oh dear! Methinks Mr. Burns doth protest too much.)

Strength in numbers, I agree. Though I respectfully add, there’s greater numbers of disfranchised when you are inclusive of all. It’s not necessarily a picnic being female in a paternal society either.

That’s one of the reasons I am so grateful for this blog site. I am not simply dismissed. I am also grateful for the responses and differing perspectives. (Prayers of thanks to you Jam.)

Together we can overcome ignorance and oppression. That’s the consistent message I hear from Senator Obama.

Encouragement: I told a neighbor (white woman from the south) I was looking to get an Obama lawn sign like the one she had recently for a local election. She called me this a.m. to say she had her son pick up a couple of Obama signs for both of us. Wooo-wooo!

  36. P. Kenneth BurnsNo Gravatar on 18 Sep 2008 at 1:36 pm #

I am not lambasting anyone’s opinion, I am not a plant, I am just someone who disagrees. If anyone is protesting too much, it’s Obama Starr who turned this into a one about race (ref: “F*ck the naysayers, closet racists, and self-hating negroes who probably don’t give two flying f*cks about the advancement of colored people or America.”)

I very much care about the advancement of black people and other minorities in the country. But I have a right to disagree with people just as much as you. Does me not supporting Obama make me a self hating negro? That is what is truly ignorant.

Believe it or not, I agree with Jam a lot, even when they were protesting her other website.

If we can disagree about the issues without calling other black people sell-outs or self-haters then we have truly achieved something. (Joking is one thing, being serious about it is a different story.) But if we stoop to Obama Starr’s level, then we are no better than the racist and prejudice assholes who want to label Obama a terrorist, a muslim and the like.

  37. MarieNo Gravatar on 18 Sep 2008 at 7:19 pm #

Ummm….okay Mr. Burns, now you may possibly have had a legitimate argument HAD you not mentioned in your initial post the “reason” why you became a republican: “It’s one of the main reasons I jumped to the Republican side, particularly in Maryland because the democrats expect me to vote for them because of my skin color.” Yeah. Ok. So your justification for abandoning the democratic side is based on skin color and the desire to prove an entire reference group of republicans wrong about black people and their voting habits. C’mon now. Is that really an appropriate reason to completely change your democratic principles? Just to prove the predictions of right-wing opinionated people wrong?!?!?!? Are you serious?!?!?

  38. P. Kenneth BurnsNo Gravatar on 18 Sep 2008 at 8:01 pm #

Marie you almost have it. I was trying to prove an entire reference group of DEMOCRATS wrong about black people and their voting habits. That is just ONE OF the main reasons in addition to being the kicker.

I do not believe that people should be penalized for being rich. I believe the Iraq War was the right thing to do, but I think we were over there too long. I believe God should be recognized in schools via a moment of silence, I do not however think the school administrators should lead a prayer however. While I am on schools, I am a firm believer in school vouchers. The government pays thousands of dollars per pupil. I believe we should have a choice whether we want that money to follow our child or leave it be to benefit the school system at large. I think that we should be drilling now and stop giving money to people that want to blow up to smithereens.

Do I really need to go further? I know that it’s unthinkable for a black person to become a Republican, but work with me. In Maryland, during the 2002 Gubernatorial campaign, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, had the attitude that black people should vote for her because she’s a democrat. She had the same attitude towards Jewish people when she could not understand why they could vote for someone with a name like Ehrlich. So after that election, I switch from Independent to Republican.

  39. Obama StanNo Gravatar on 18 Sep 2008 at 11:58 pm #

It’s one thing to be Republican. Cause like Jam stated in a previous post; most people have values that will cross both parties. Black folks in particular are for the most part conservative…but I’m looking at the candidates and hell will freeze over before I vote for a man with dementia and a crack pot Walmart Mom to lead our nation…nationally or globally…

Have you even heard Palin speak? Aside from her “nails on a chalkboard” voice, her vocabulary is piss poor and undemonstrative.

Our nation is going down just like Rome did..so stop with the “I don’t wanna share my money with social programs” shit. The way people defend this war you would think that Bush Jr. put some residuals from the oil trim in their pockets. Wake up people! Bush jr. is a nitwit and a puppet…not an effective leader. I don’t blame the rich for being rich. But the window for others to climb that ladder has gotten so tiny that the American Dream has really become a farce.

All of this “me first” is why we are suffering from the lowest IQ’s ever as Americans. Self-interested “I got mine, so you get yours” is nothing but ego in overdrive.

There’s nothing wrong with being Republican; but there’s definitely something wrong with who’s on their ticket.

  40. CatheeNo Gravatar on 19 Sep 2008 at 8:28 am #

A suggested read: The Good Society by John Galbreath. He demonstrates that indeed people are entitled to money they EARN, most of the elite are born into money and opportunity unheard of by the rest of us. We are not given equal OPPORTUNITY to earn. This is to say that while I’m not for “stealing from the rich to give to the poor”, I am for a system that provides the education and opportunity for all willing to work.

Why is there a cap on taxes on income? Why do I pay taxes on every penny I earn, but there is a limit, I’m not sure the amount, over which taxes are not levied? Hmmmm, the rich set up a lot of rules that benefit only them. Unfortunately, they seem to be without conscience, and it is time we stood up and imposed one on them.

Why would McSame support school vouchers rather than insisting that all schools employe best practices and standards?

As Obama has stated, we all need to take responsibility for ourselves and for this country. Each of us suffers when one of us falls.

McSame has demonstrated a woeful disregard, and lack of comprehension, for the real issues facing this country. His running mate doesn’t even make it onto the scale to measure.

We can’t afford four more years of elite deceit; I’m willing to take a chance on Obama. (God help him with the mess he’ll be facing.)

  41. P. Kenneth BurnsNo Gravatar on 19 Sep 2008 at 2:37 pm #

Well Cathee, let’s be fair. McCain has said that the economy is not his strong suit, hence why I am not shocked about the things coming out of his mouth sometimes.

I agree with everyone needing to take responsibility for themselves and for this country we love. I agree that things should be a level playing field. However, if people are not willing to take responsibility and use the opportunity, then it’s for naught.

You can place a hard copy of opportunities in the hands of those who need it, but if they do not want to take advantage of it, why bother. you can’t force people to get off of welfare, you cannot force people to go to school.

We probably have more equal opportunity now than 25, 30 and 35 years ago. Will we have to work harder for it, of course. Is racism and discrimination alive and well, yes. But at some point we have to say that we have better things to do than wallow in victimhood.

As far as schools go, why not have both. Why not have school vouchers AND best practices and standards in public schools. If I want to send my kid to a religious school with the money I am paying for through taxes for my child, I should be able to do that. Schools should have the highest standards and practices no matter if it’s public or private.

That’s part of the reason I like No Child Left Behind act. It challenges teachers and gives them a reason to make sure kids are learning. It’s not a perfect law, but it’s something.

  42. MarieNo Gravatar on 19 Sep 2008 at 5:25 pm #

Mr. Burns….No, actually I understood your post fully. I understood that your principles are based upon proving both parties wrong; either way you measure it, it’s the same type of immature rebellion.

Whether you are trying to prove an entire reference group of republicans or democrats wrong really is not the issue. You have made the choice to become republican simply based on a desire to be perceived in an unpredictable manner by BOTH parties. So childish and insecure on your part. One should select a political party based on personal values and principles, not on the opinions of society. Your comments depict a very insecure person with a highly vulnerable ego among societal groups.

  43. adminNo Gravatar on 19 Sep 2008 at 7:01 pm #

I think this conversation, as contentious as it is, is an important one and it focuses (generally) on the issues. That is what political debate should be about–What issues are impt to you and your family and then vote your preference. I dont care who one votes for as long as you can articulate why that person has your vote. Thats what i was missing in the rapidly-vanishing Palin Effect. Everyone was excited for no reason anyone could discern. that type of decision making is scary in this day and age. I may disagree with Burns about the war in Iraq, I dont think we had any business over there but reasonable minds can disagree on that and a million other things. As long as the conversations are based on issues you can wrap your mind around and not some hootin and hollerin campaign gimmicks. Frankly anyone who doesnt want the U.S. to control her guns, but on the other hand wants total control over my uterus, has no chance in my book. But thats just me. Play nice kids.

    RE: No Child Left Behind

Though well intentioned, No Child Left Behind has achieved little to nothing in the classroom, and has only served to line pockets of politicians as local dollars go up and down the food chain.

It ties dollars to results of high stakes tests, without regard to the individual school or student socio-economic level. It is much like saying to a dentist practicing in a neighborhood in which residents have little or no resources for regular dental care, “Too many of your patients are requiring fillings or dentures, so we’re going to take away your funding.” This is how NCYB operates. Scores not high enough? We’ll take away your funding, or come in and comandeer your school. On the other end of the spectrum, absolute progress is required, even if the school is already high-achieving. If over four years, sufficient improvement is not documented, the same results can be imposed. So a school with excellent over-all scores must push students even harder to show continual improvement, even if they are already at an outstanding level.

Too many drop-outs? The Texas model, upon which NCYB was based, demonstrated that Texas schools decreased the drop-out rate substantially. How is this done? Now students can be “withdrawals”, I believe based on parental consent. Never mind if the records aren’t being forwarded on to another district, this student has “withdrawn”. It has become a word game.

So teachers teach to a test, spontaneous learning opportunities are gone, and the public responds to arbitrary numbers posted by local boards of education. The children lose out on the opportunity to become critical thinkers in favor of becoming test takers. Future generations will look back on this period in our education system as a time of abuse and neglect.

BTW, when our government cries out that we’re not keeping up with other nations, keep in mind that other nations don’t test as broadly as we do, nor do they have the “main streaming” as we do. Children with special needs and learning disabilities are routinely excluded from testing in other countries, while America, being inclusive, tests the majority students in public schools.

Yeah, No Child Left Behind, it’s something alright.

  45. CatheeNo Gravatar on 19 Sep 2008 at 9:48 pm #

Mr. Burns: I believe we do force people to go to school, at least until the age of 16. Additionally, at least one state has passed a law that if a child drops out of school before the age of 18, (if not graduated by that age), he/she cannot get a driver’s license. I think this is a good incentive, though I favor changing the drop-out age to 18. College is optional, though becoming more and more out of reach for all but the rich.

Welfare, isn’t that a whole ‘nother story? It requires one to be totally dependent on the system…no assets over a certain limit (is it $600?), other than your home, and one car, I believe. It encourages dependence. Thus, if you’ve managed to open an IRA account of $1500, you have to liquidate it (at a penalty if you’re under 59 years old), before you are eligible. (Again, punishment for planning for the future.) It is not a system that gives a helping hand, it is a system that self-perpetuates by making recipients totally dependent. The same is true for Medicaid and EBT/Bridge cards (formerly known as food stamps). So if you can make your house payments, and have a rainy-day fund, you can’t qualify for medical coverage through Medicaid. The system has to see you totally destitute before the “helping hand” is extended. Thus, we have a dependent welfare community, and millions of Americans who don’t qualify for aid, one health problem away from total collapse.

Additionally, EBT/Bridge cards are quite amusing. Card-holders cannot buy pre-prepared food, but they can buy cases of soda-pop and candy bars (unlike the WIC program). Depressed people often seek comfort through food, do you think they’re going to buy celery and carrots for comfort? And the maddening circle continues.

Force people to get off welfare? I think we force them to stay on it by how it is managed.

One last thought: Where do we draw the line on school vouchers? You say you want religious school. Would you support vouchers for a Wiccan school? Is there a reason that religion can’t be taught in the home? Public schools don’t rob children of their religious beliefs, they just don’t teach to one. Just wondering…

Cathee…first and foremost, calling my choice of party an immature rebellion is unfair and labeling me insecure is uncalled for. It is the typical response by black people when another black person breaks from the pack as far as thoughts and beliefs. You are better than that.

Now, As far as no child left behind, I never said it was a perfect law. I agree with you about teachers teaching to a test. This sort of thing has been going on since the time I was in elementary school (I’m 27.) Whenever America feels inferior to the world in the Math and Science world, they start cutting of other elements that truly allow kids to think (Arts Education for one, movie ref: Mr. Holland’s Opus.)

I don’t like the teaching a test aspect, I do however like the holding teachers and schools accountable aspect. If I, for the sake of argument, consistently kept going over the time allotted for me on a radio segment, I would be called out on it and the progression of the disciplinary table would begin until I straighten up. In D.C., it would take an act of God before a bad teacher would get fired or a student’s needs being met. If teachers are not doing their job, I’m sorry they need to be held accountable. If schools are bad, they need new management.

As far as school vouchers. I am for vouchers for any school that the parent wants to send their kids too. If the parent wants to pay for it out of pocket, that’s cool. I think parents should be able to have access to the money that the government pays for their child (the price per pupil money) to use to send them to a private school. Religion is taught in the home, but students should be able to openly practice their faith if they want to. Recent court decisions have ruled that students can’t lead other students in prayer. That, I believe is robbing them of religion.

  49. CatheeNo Gravatar on 20 Sep 2008 at 9:40 am #

P.K.B.: I think you have me confused with another poster, re: calling your choices/party immature.

Additionally, parents need to be held accountable for their children’s behaviors too. Try teaching to a child who falls asleep in class, or doesn’t get proper nutrition to keep the brain going/developing. We expect the schools to do it all for us, from feeding them, to socializing them, to teaching moral and religious values; all without any support from home. You also vary from “out-of-pocket” to “tax” dollars. Which is it? I don’t want any other child leading my child in prayer, period. (Spirituality is demonstrated by how one lives his/her life, not words spouted, or the imposing by force the values one holds.) And, that teaching to a test has been going on since you were in school doesn’t justify it; indeed, it is a sad statement on how schools still jump through the hoops set up by non-professionals, (IE: parents, politicians, etc. Do I get to tell you how to run your show? Believe me, parents even dictate seating charts in the classroom.)

K.C.: Wow, your poetry says it all. Wonderful! Thanks!

    RE: School Force and Welfare

You are right that we force kids to go to high school, but when they graduate from high school we don’t really force them to go to college. We might force them to go out of the house, but we do not force them to get a job or go to school after high school.

You are right in that welfare is a whole different story. I don’t think that it’s so much that the system is designed on people to be totally dependent. That is certainly part of it, but I think another element is that somewhere along the line, welfare became glorified.

You are suppose to be so shameful of welfare that you would try to do your best to come off of it, now it seems to be the opposite. I also agree that the EBT cards are a bit assinine.

The 2004 election was the mother of all vote frauds thanks to the manipulation of electronic voting machines.

for example – in one Ohio county, only 600 people voted, but some 4,200 votes were counted — for Bush.

    In 2006 the fraud continued.

Why the hell are our votes even going to matter in 2008?

my example came from this article: http://www.minnpost.com/robnelson/2008/01/30/730/uncounted_adds_up_voting_irregularities

  53. P. Kenneth BurnsNo Gravatar on 20 Sep 2008 at 10:03 am #

It’s both. If I am a parent, and I want to pay for private school out of pocket and not remove the dollars following my kid in the public school system, that should be allowed and then that money should stay in the school system. If I want the per pupil money to follow my kid to private school, I should be able to exercise that right. Either way, students will benefit in the long run.

Furthermore, I think you should let your child be led in prayer by another child, IF HE WANTS TO. If your child does not want to, he should not be forced. Freedom of religion and freedom of speech is one of our most precious values being attacked in schools because everyone is afraid of a lawsuit. If a group of students want to get together and pray (and they are all in agreement) the school administrator has no right to break it up.

And if I didn’t make myself clear, I apologize, but I was actually agreeing with you that teaching to a test is counterproductive. I mentioned the fact that teaching to a test has been going on since I was in school only for perspective. It’s not right then, and it’s not right now.

Parents do need to keep their kids in check, but they also have to keep themselves in check. I know how idiotic some parents are.

I have read two books. One author leans to the left, the other one leans to the right. Both cited studies in which Black people in Ohio actually voted for Bush, no fraud applied here.

Ok Mr. Burns….I am not black. I am an educated Latina.

  56. MarieNo Gravatar on 20 Sep 2008 at 11:31 am #

Oh yeah…also, the “immature rebellion” comment is directed at your REASON and so-called BASIS for making the political switch, NOT your republican beliefs themselves; perhaps you misunderstood that as well.

  57. P. Kenneth BurnsNo Gravatar on 20 Sep 2008 at 11:46 am #

OK, so you’re not black. I apologize for assuming that you are. However, I still stand by my comment that you are better than that. Nevermind the fact that you missed the part in my response where I said, “I was trying to prove an entire reference group of DEMOCRATS wrong about black people and their voting habits. That is just ONE OF the main reasons in addition to being the kicker”

I sat down and went through it and decided that the Democrats were no longer for me or my community.

You still gave the typical response to someone who thinks differently from the majority. You have focused more on attacking me as opposed to debating the issues like Cathee. And before you ask “when did I attack you?”

Scroll up to your first comment, “See? America really IS that dumb. Case in point illustrated perfectly with P. Kenneth Burns’ comment. I rest my case.”

    Case closed on that one.

  58. MarieNo Gravatar on 20 Sep 2008 at 12:49 pm #

Wow. Ok I am not going to continue to go back and forth with you on this issue. Everyone has the right to argue against specific points which really hit a nerve, according to the individual. This just happened to be mine, and certain statements you made really jumped out at me. The principle of the matter is obviously that you can’t handle when others shed light on your personal weaknesses. I happen to believe that your type of thinking demonstrates a character flaw, in that one would change their principles based on the opinions of other people–people who don’t even know—or couldn’t care less—about you.

  59. P. Kenneth BurnsNo Gravatar on 20 Sep 2008 at 12:56 pm #

    Houston, I think I struck a nerve.

  60. CatheeNo Gravatar on 20 Sep 2008 at 9:32 pm #

Mr. Burns: It is gratifying to know you have read two books.

Vic: I think you have a real concern here. I listen to National Public Radio, and while I don’t recall the name of the guest, she spoke clearly and factually, giving absolute reason for us to be concerned that computer election polls are extremely vulnerable to hacking. (Maybe the show would be in NPR archives on-line?) Other elections have been rigged too; there is some evidence that the Kennedy election of 1960 involved some foul play. It was pointed out on the program that with computers, the rigging of elections is now easier than ever.

I hope you don’t give up Vic; I kinda think that’s in part, what the elite hope to do: wear us down and split us up. Let’s not go down without a fight, okay?

Just for anyone even considering voting for McSame, may I remind you that he was one of the Keating 5 of the late 1980′s-early 1990′s. This scam collapsed savings and loans at a cost estimated to be anywhere between $500 BILLION and $1 TRILLION. Using a mid-point figure of $750 Billion, the cost of this debacle is still costing every U.S. household $25 a year through 2030.

We’re now bailing out the mortgage market and investment firms. This country cannot survive another 4 years with a Republican at the helm, especially John “Keating 5″ McSame. (And the Republicans say Democrats are not fiscally responsible, HA!)

  63. Jefferson Sergeant on 22 Sep 2008 at 3:03 am #

To put it simply, Burns is a fraud.

    Burns comments define conscientous stupidity.

Under the Bush administration we have experienced 800,000 Americans falling into poverty, 650,000 job losses in 2008 and a 5 year high in unemployment.

That doesn’t even take into account the corrupt revisions to the Bankruptcy laws and deregulation of financial institutions which have led directly to this economic catastrophe we are now experiencing.

Also, McCain, the guy who doesn’t know much about the economy; knew enough to vote for deregulation that gave CEO’s free rein to collapse the market.

This view by some Black people about being rebellious by joining the Republican party is self-hatred personified. Now unlike Burns; lets look at some facts.

Blackwell, a Black Republican was a staunch party member who was lock step with the party in every way. When he ran for Governor of Ohio, the Republicans in that state completely abandoned him. To give you an idea of how telling this loss was; in relation to how Republicans view Blacks, Ohio hadn’t elected a Democrat as Governor for 20 yrs before Blackwell ran.

Same policies+ Black candidate= Republican defeat

Just a coincidence, Burns? How about this.

Michael Steele- Ran for Senator in Maryland. Again, the trusty negro that is always there to show how diverse and tolerant Republicans are towed the line in every way. The result, a loss of epic proportions.

    Same policies+ Black candidate= Defeat

Still not convinced where Blacks stand in the Republican party. Lets go for the trifecta.

Lynn Swann- In a Republican stronghold, Swann would just need a pulse to gain Republican support as he agreed with the party’s stance on all major issues. His run for governor was a ….wait for it, A BIG ASS LOSS!

J.C. Watts has provided tremendous insight into how Republicans view Black people.

    Black-Thought-Police.blogspot.com

  64. P. Kenneth BurnsNo Gravatar on 22 Sep 2008 at 7:54 am #

The Black Thought Police, I should have known that my thinking would bring someone out. However, since I am a gentleman, ladies first.

Cathee, you are bringing up something that McCain was only found to have exercised poor judgment on. He was cleared of the Keating Five. George Bush did not lead the economy down this path (but he sure as hell didn’t help.) It was the simple fact that in the mid to late 90s, we fell in love with deregulation. It was a bi-partisan eff up with a Republican Congress and a Democratic president. Despite what they want to say, the tally vote to repeal the Glass-Steagall act was 90-8 and one of the people against it was John McCain.

Jefferson, the same thing I say to you is what I told Marie. Your better than name calling. If you disagree with me fine, but keep it civil.

But since we want to throw the fraud label around, let’s talk about Obama’s blueprint for change which is mostly rehash from promises made by politico’s past along with tax code hocus pocus. The only change that is involved is the person delivering it.

The fact is the Democratic party has taken our vote for granted and he keep holding our noses to vote for people who do not necessarily care about our values and for what, because of a few racist a-holes who wanted to win by digging salt into a wound that had not healed yet? Come on.

I cannot sit idly and hold my nose anymore. You might think my actions are immature, but at least I have sack enough to call a spade a spade.

Jefferson, you might have an argument with Lynn Swann and Ken Blackwell (remember I said might,) but as someone who lives in Maryland let me explain why Michael Steele loss.

In Maryland, the two big metro areas, DC and Baltimore, are heavily Democratic and they can easily out vote the more conservative Eastern Shore and Western part of the state. I spoke with a quite a few people who said they couldn’t get with Steele because of what he believed, not because of his skin color.

Furthermore in Maryland, I would invite you to google the story on how a number of Prince George’s County Council members endorsed Michael Steele for U.S. Senate because they were tired of the Democratic party taking the black vote for granted.

Also, as far as Blackwell and Swann, that was no shock to me…have you not forgotten about the Bradley Effect?

  65. CatheeNo Gravatar on 22 Sep 2008 at 1:56 pm #

McSame was not cleared of the Keating 5, he WAS one of the Keating 5. He narrowly avoided prosecution. His weak apology doesn’t negate the fact that he walked away unscathed leaving us to carry the burden of his “poor judgement”. Were it me, or any other commoner, we would still be in jail.

Easy to overlook that which makes you uncomfortable, eh?

  66. Jefferson Sergeant on 22 Sep 2008 at 3:40 pm #

Mr. Burns, respectfully it is not going to work.

You set up a premise where your support of the Republican party is based as an act of protest against Democrats. This speaks to a level of irrationality that only someone who is myopic in their views would adhere to. If you had stated that the Republicans have a much better platform on issues of Healthcare, education, economic reform etc. I might see your point, but that wasn’t the case.

I agree that the Democrats have taken the Black vote for granted but in this atmosphere it speaks volumes to the Republican’s inability to capture that vote. I brought up the instances of Blackwell, Steele and Swann to illustrate how fundamentally racist the Republican party and its members are. There is no way that a White Republican would’ve lost in Ohio and Pennsylvania, absolutely none. There losses were a referendum on how both the Republican Party and their supporters view Blacks.

I am curious, as a Black man how did you feel looking into that see of vanilla at the RNC convention? I mean they had a few chocolate chips sprinkled inbetween, especially the Black man with the POW shirt that they panned to 5 times but I digress.

Just to let you know, I didn’t miss the fact that you never addressed the issues of poverty, unemployment and job losses that have taken place under this Republican administration.

  67. P. Kenneth BurnsNo Gravatar on 22 Sep 2008 at 4:48 pm #

Cathee, he was cleared and the Etichs committee slapped the “poor judgement” on him.

Jefferson, if you weren’t too busy coming up with how to call white Republicans racist five different times, you might have caught the part where I address the economy when I said:

“George Bush did not lead the economy down this path (but he sure as hell didn’t help.) It was the simple fact that in the mid to late 90s, we fell in love with deregulation. It was a bi-partisan eff up with a Republican Congress and a Democratic president. Despite what they want to say, the tally vote to repeal the Glass-Steagall act was 90-8 and one of the people against it was John McCain.”

And if you had read earlier posts, you might have also saw how I said, that was ONE OF the reasons I jumped Republican. You are assuming that I was a registered Democrat at one point (I never was.)

So tell me, as a black man, how does it feel to see another black man think for himself and not assume that all white Republicans are racist? Oh and in general, how does it feel to have someone not conform to the way you think they should?

Oh and in case you missed it, I did address some issues before the Secret Order sent you to attack.

  68. Jefferson Sergeant on 22 Sep 2008 at 5:51 pm #

“George Bush didn’t lead the economy down this path.”

I noticed it but I dismissed it as clear revisionist history. Are you really supporting this statement?

Bush was a key factor in this economic debacle we are now suffering through. Bush instituted the reforms in Bankruptcy law that have millions of Americans saddled with debt and interest rates that would make the term usury seem kind. Meanwhile, we have billion dollar corporations being bailed out without a moments hesitation.

The Bankruptcy reform was soon followed by legislation which allowed banks and mortgage companies carte blanche in the handling of mortages and loans. We are seeing the impact today as predatory lending has resulted in millions of foreclosures and an increased debt that taxpayers now have to bear.

So, in short your Republican leader came in with a surplus and through the idiocy of his foreign policy doctrine and his deregulation at all cost attitude, he is now leaving us as a nation trillions of dollars in debt.

Of course, these are all lies that I’m makung up because you are a Black man who deigns to think for himself.

  69. Jefferson Sergeant on 22 Sep 2008 at 6:00 pm #

I wanted to address the last part of your statement.

I see you are unwilling to answer substantively when asked but I will try again. If Republicans as a whole are color-blind in general; and not discriminatory against Blacks in particular, please explain this.

Again, Blackwell lost in a Republican stronghold while upholding every aspect of Republican ideology. What was the cause of that?

Swann, was annihilated in Pennsylvania while hitting all the Republican talking points. What would you cite as the reason for that outcome?

J.C. Watts was the poster boy for Black Republicans and he left the party in disgust for their inner politics.

In short, I have given you not only instances where the Republican party and their members have abandoned Black candidates, I even provided Watts story as an insider who finally figured out where Black people stand in the party.

In the face of this challenge the most you can come up with is, ” Your’re a Black man that thinks for himself”.

You REALLY make a compelling argument fo your support of the Republican party.

  70. P. Kenneth BurnsNo Gravatar on 22 Sep 2008 at 7:03 pm #

Now you are slamming by omission, which shows that you have an agenda.

If you are going to slam me, at least use the entire sentence.

I said: “George Bush did not lead the economy down this path (but he sure as hell didn’t help.)”

As my mom says, don’t tell the half story, tell the whole story.

And last I checked, Blackwell, Steele and Swann won their primary contest. They lost the general election, which includes Democrats and Republicans. If the Republican party was inherently racist, these three men would not have even been nominated. They would have been laughed out the door.

Plus you are picking examples against a backdrop of a year wear the populace ripped Republicans a new one in general.

Are your arms tired, I hear goal posts are heavy.

  71. Jefferson Sergeant on 22 Sep 2008 at 8:07 pm #

You can get to the point of the 650,000 job losses this year, 800,000 falling into poverty and the 5 yr record unemployment rate anytime now.

When you are done with that McCain supporter maybe you can address this as well.

“I think the [financial industry] deregulation [that I sponsored] was probably helpful to the growth of our economy.”

Who do you think made the quoted statement?

We can start with this as its just the “Facts” from now on.

  72. lemonheadNo Gravatar on 22 Sep 2008 at 11:12 pm #

Obama MUST WIN. The McCain/Palin trainwreck is just too frightening to stomach. Palin’s views on womens rights just make me ill.

  73. MarieNo Gravatar on 23 Sep 2008 at 4:52 pm #

I got this from ‘Bossip’ today and just had to share:

“Although negroes such as Jesse Jackson and Robert Johnson and some racist white folks want to cut off Obama’s nuts, its our generation’s responsibility to get out there in battleground states such as Ohio, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia to pull him over the top. Our ancestors will be watching on November 4th to see if you took 5 minutes out of your day to ride for something other than yourself.

If our country doesn’t elect Obama on November 4th, we deserve to go into another Great Depression.”

    Well said.

  74. Jefferson Sergeant on 23 Sep 2008 at 5:44 pm #

I really hope Blacks turn out in droves in Georgia and make that state a victory for Obama. I don’t know if they still fly the confederate flag there but I would enjoy watching a few residents wipe their tears away with it.

  75. Jefferson Sergeant on 24 Sep 2008 at 2:58 pm #

It was inevitable. With McCain down in some polls by 9% and the Palin gambit fizzling out; I knew this was coming.

Most conservative pundits are expecting a poor performance by McCain in the debates. The easiest strategy will be to cast Obama as an angry Black man to divert attention from McCain’s failure as well as his complicity in the deregulation that has led to the current economic crisis.

I have stopped watching Cable news for almost 3 weeks due to the revolting spin and outright lies that the media is allowing in this campaign. I am very much tempted to watch CNN and FOX to see if my predictions come true but given the absolute abandonment of standards in broadcast news; I doubt the regular suspects i.e. Rove, Hannity, Beck etc, will let me down.

  76. btaNo Gravatar on 03 Nov 2008 at 7:24 pm #

Believe me, some white women are insulted. The main thing Palin proves to me is that the Republicans will _never_ understand feminism. The flip side of the belief that women can stand on their own merits equal to any man is that yes, some women are equal twits to some men. Not just _any_ person with boobs will do as the leader – Seriously, you think you can huckster me over to your campaign because this person holds the same chromosomes I do? Try one with brain cells too.

  77. QNo Gravatar on 02 Jan 2009 at 8:48 pm #

All that McCain had to say was that Obama will indeed raise EVERYONE’S TAXES even after giving a small tax break to most people by raising taxes in other areas that exceeds the tax break amount AND point out that Obama defended INFANTICIDE at least 4 times while in the Illinois senate – even after getting the final bill to include the language he wanted Obama opposed it and fought to keep the practice of INFANTICIDE legal in Illinois.

I know blacks aren’t bothered by this since blakcs abort (violently murder) @ 50% of their children, but MOST OTHER PEOPLE are appaled that Obama defended INFANTICIDE multiple times – and that for them is a big disqualifier.

  78. New Health CoverageNo Gravatar on 10 May 2009 at 12:26 am #

The debate still lingers on, even after Obama has been elected. This country has much to do. We still need to fix our economy, and secure a sustainable infrastructure (i.e. education, job creation, and alternative energy) to compete in the global economy. I remain optomistic because I want success for us all. I hope there will be less bickering and more solutions to our everyday problems.

Obama is not given enough credit. No President in history has been faced with so many challenges: two wars, terrible economy, high unemployment, deregulated industries, corporate/political greed, lost of prestige around the world, and personal hate. Now most of the media have been fair with him except of course Fox News. Their bias towards him mostly by those morning show kuckleheads, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, and on occasions Bill O”Reilly no matter what he does they can’t find it in them to praise him. He gets $20 billion dollars to ensure people are not left out in the cold by BP and they read it as a power grab. Had George Bush done it they would hail it as him doing what’s best for the people. Then you get to their lame reason like it is unconstituional. As if Sarah Palin did a day in law school, our President taught constituional law!! I would trust him to know his responsibilities as President better than these wanna be Perry Masons. In the end, these people who hate OUR PRESIDENT will regret the day that they didn’t embrace this man of character and fortitude. He is the right man for this job and the only one who could have handled all these challenges and keep his head.

    So not really on the same topic as your post, but I found this today and I just cant resist sharing. Mrs. Agathe’s dishwasher quit working so she called a repairman. Since she had to go to work the next day, she told him, “I’ll leave the key under the mat. Fix the dishwasher, leave the bill on the counter, and I’ll mail you the check. Oh, and by the waydon’t worry about my Doberman. He won’t bother you. But, whatever you do, do NOT under ANY circumstances talk to my parrot!” When the repairman arrived at Mrs. Agathe’s apartment the next day, he discovered the biggest and meanest looking Doberman he had ever seen. But just as she had said, the dog simply laid there on the carpet, watching the repairman go about his business. However, the whole time the parrot drove him nuts with his incessant cursing, yelling and name-calling. Finally the repairman couldn’t contain himself any longer and yelled, “Shut up, you stupid ugly bird!” To which the parrot replied, “Get him, Spike!”}
